InnerOrbit is investigating correlations between our student data and state test results. The results of this study will produce deeper insights about what you can expect from using InnerOrbit data as predictions or correlations to state test performance.
While this investigation is underway, here are two ways partner districts are currently aligning their student data on InnerOrbit to their state test data:
Use InnerOrbit scores with state test proficiency scores
Set dimensional data default proficiencies to match scale score ranges
InnerOrbit generates dimensional data through our question to dimension tagging (learn more here).
These dimensional data shows in teacher's Dimensions Report and admin's District Report. The proficiencies in both reports are set to a 4 default ranges (learn more here):
These default ranges are generated from an average of state test scale scores, which might be different than your state test's scale scores.
To align your dimensional data to your state test's scale scores:
Find your state test's scale score ranges.
Ex: Oklahoma 2022 5th Grade Ranges
Below Basic: 200-271
Basic: 271-299
Proficient: 300-329
Advanced: 330-399
Convert those ranges to percents, using the total scale score range as the denominator and each proficiency category starting score as the numerator.
Use those percentages as your proficiency percentages on InnerOrbit
Highlight the numbers in the colored boxes
Type in your new percentages
Press enter for data to change

Use InnerOrbit scores with state test proficiency scores
If you have summative assessments that include ONLY 2D and 3D questions (no 1D prior knowledge or core content questions), you can align InnerOrbit student SCORES to state test data.
Score = # of questions right / total # of questions (8/10 questions correct = 80%)
Score data is in the Assignment Report and Gradebook
To align overall score to your state test's scale scores:
Find the minimum points students must receive to be proficient using your state test scale scores
Ex: Kentucky 4th Grade Scale Score (KSA)
Of the total scale score range of 400-600, 515 is proficient
515-400 = 115 "proficiency points"
600-400 = 200 "total scale score range"
Divide the "proficiency points" by the "total scale score range" to get your proficiency score.
115/200 = This makes 58% the proficiency score
Calculate the % of students that scored above the proficiency score on a 2D/3D assessment (exporting csv is best option)
This is the % of students that are meeting state test proficiency
Ex: On Benchmark 1, 23% of students at BLACK BAR school scored at or above the proficiency score of 58%.
On Benchmark 2, 62% of students at BLACK BAR school scored at or above the proficiency score of 58%.
