Make a Modified Copy of an Assessment

Need to modify a common assessment or an assessment created by another teacher? Here's how to make your own editable copy — for example, to create an accommodated version for certain students.

You can assign another teacher’s InnerOrbit assessment or a school/district common assessment as-is, without making changes. When customization is needed, making a copy allows you to adjust questions, answer choices, assessment length, or accommodations.

How to Copy An Assessment

1. Find the assessment in your "Library (see Find and Assign a Common or Colleague's Assessment for guidance).

2. Click the vertical three dots (⋮) in the top right corner of the assessment.

3. Select "Make a Copy to Modify."

3. Enter a new title for your copy and click the green "Create Copy" button. Rename your assessment clearly to avoid confusion later — for example: "23-24 4th Grade Unit 1 CFA – Modified."

4. Refresh the page — your new copy will appear under "Created by You" in your Library.

Your Data After Copying

When copying a common assessment, a new assessment ID is created. This affects how your admin views cumulative reports:

  • Assigning the original — your results are grouped with your team's data in your admin's cumulative reports.

    • When assigning a common assessment, other teachers will not be able to view your data. Only administrators can view assessment data across teachers.

  • Making a copy — your results will appear separately in your admin's cumulative reports.

Check with your admin before making a copy.
