🚧 Important Prerequisite: If you don’t have student rosters uploaded on InnerOrbit, watch this rostering video first to get your rosters set up.

How to Assign an Assessment to Individual Students or Small Groups

You may want to assign a remediation assessment or activity to a single student or a small group that has a certain misconception. To do so, follow these steps:

Step 1: Go to Your Library Tab

  • Navigate to the “Library” tab in your InnerOrbit dashboard.

Step 2: Locate the Assessment

  • Find the assessment you want to assign.

Step 3: Choose the Roster

  • In the pink assigning window on the right, select the roster that includes the student(s).

  • A check mark will appear next to the selected roster.

Step 4: Access the Lock Settings

  • You will see a green unlocked icon under the roster name.

  • Click the green unlocked icon to open the lock settings.

Step 5: Lock or Unlock for Specific Students

  • A pop-up window will appear showing all the students in the roster.

  • Click on the blue “Lock this Assignment for All Students" button to lock the assessment for the entire class

  • To assign to a single student:

    • Unlock the assessment for the student you wish to have access.

  • To assign to a small group of students:

    • Unlock the assessment for the small group you wish to have access.

📖 Pro Tip: If you want to provide students with the opportunity to retake an assessment and correct their errors after instruction, read our recommendations: Can Students Retake an Assessment?

⏱️ Extended time: How to pause testing for students

If you have students who need extended time and you need to temporarily pause an assessment, you can manually lock the assignment for those student(s) using the steps above. When you’re ready to resume testing, unlock the assessment and students can pick up where they left off.

👀 Student's View When an Assignment Is Locked

If an assignment is locked for a student, they will:

  • See the assessment title on their InnerOrbit dashboard.

  • Be unable to open the assessment until it is unlocked
