Yes! Students can absolutely retake assessments in InnerOrbit.
You have a few flexible options depending on your goal:
Retakes help you focus on progress and sensemaking Here’s how to make the most of them:
🔁 Unsubmit for a Quick Redo in Real Time
If a student is rocketing through the assessment too quickly, you can unsubmit their answers to allow them to review and make changes.
💡 Pro Tip: The student’s original score won’t be saved once you unsubmit. To compare performance across attempts, save the score first by jotting it down or taking a quick screenshot.
How to Unsubmit an Assessment:
Navigate to the Reports tab.
Select View the Full Report for the assessment.
In the Administration column, click Unsubmit next to the student’s name.
Confirm the action — you’ll see Submit Incomplete reappear once it’s successful.
After You Unsubmit
The assessment reappears on the student’s dashboard.
They’ll see Continue Where You Left Off.
All prior answers will reappear for them to review or update.
🧩 Duplicate and Assign a New Retake Version
If you want to reassess after instruction or intervention, you can easily create a retake version of the assessment.
How to Create a Duplicate Assessment
Go to the Library tab.
Find the original assessment.
Click the three dots (⋮) → Make a Copy to Modify.
Rename the duplicate — this is now your retake version!
(Optional) Click Edit Quiz to add or adjust questions.
💡 Pro Tip: To evaluate transfer of learning, design a new assessment that features a different phenomenon while assessing the same NGSS Performance Expectation(s). This reveals whether students can apply their understanding across contexts.
🎯 Assign Retakes to Specific Students
If you’ve duplicated an assessment or created a new retake assessment, you can assign it to specific students or groups who need another try.
How to Assign to Individuals or Groups
Open the retake assessment to review the Assign view.
Choose your class roster.
Use the Lock icon to control who gets access:
🟢 Unlocked (Green): Access granted
🔴 Locked (Red): Visible but not accessible
