Launching your first InnerOrbit assessment can be a seamless experience with a few easy preparation steps. Here’s a quick guide to help you feel confident and ensure that your students are set up for success.

Step-By-Step Guide: Preparing Students to Use InnerOrbit

1. Review Your Rosters

A few days before assessment day, double-check that your rosters are complete and accurate. Here’s how to make sure no one is left out:

  • Navigate to the Roster Tab: In your InnerOrbit dashboard, locate the Rosters tab.

  • Verify Student Lists: Confirm all students are listed correctly. If anyone is missing, click the purple circle in the bottom right to message the InnerOrbit team. Include the roster name (e.g., "Period 1: Slytherin House") and details of the missing students for quick assistance.

2. Enable Necessary Accommodations

InnerOrbit provides different tools to support accessibility and accommodate individual learning needs. Be sure to enable the necessary features or guide students on how to access them:

  • Text-to-Speech: Activate this feature in your Rosters tab for students who need read-aloud support. Encourage them to test it out during the practice assessment to ensure they're comfortable using it.

  • Translation: Teach students how to use Google Translate extension if it’s enabled by your school or district.

  • Adjust Text Size: Demonstrate how to enlarge or reduce text size directly in the assessment view for students who may benefit from adjustments.

📖 For detailed instructions about how to use these features, see the help article: Accommodation Features on InnerOrbit

3. Assign a Practice Assessment

Introducing a practice assessment can build student confidence and familiarize them with the InnerOrbit interface:

  • Assign an Assessment: Try a quick warm-up exercise at the start of class. Create an assessment that includes a mix of question types—such as multiple choice, drag-and-drop, and drawing—to help students get familiar with the platform’s interactive features.

  • Login Setup: Direct students to log in via your school’s platform (Clever, Classlink, Google, or username/password).

    • Login Troubleshooting: If a student has trouble logging in, try inputting their username, password, and school ID manually on the login page. Before starting, reset the password so you can help them log in easily.

  • Explore Platform Tools: Walk students through question types, text size adjustment, and turning on Google Translate if it’s enabled.

4. Screenshare the Student View

Providing a quick overview of what the student experience will look like can boost their confidence and minimize troubleshooting during the assessment. Consider a brief screenshare before launching.

  • Demonstrate Login & Navigation: Show students how to log in and locate their assignments.

  • Highlight Tools & Features: Point out text resizing, navigation buttons, and submission instructions.

  • Boost Confidence: Encourage questions and provide clarity to ensure a stress-free launch.

5. Final Checklist and Tips

  • Log In Early: Have students log in 5–10 minutes before the assessment begins.

  • Answer Last-Minute Questions: Encourage students to ask questions before the assessment starts to ensure they are clear on expectations.

  • Remind Students of Tools: Reiterate how to use tools like text-to-speech or translation if needed.
